Aminated Plates

Aminated Plates are microplates with a surface coated with aminated (positively charged) functional groups. These plates are designed to enhance the binding of negatively charged biomolecules, such as nucleic acids, proteins, and other macromolecules. The amino groups on the plate surface provide a high affinity for various biological molecules through electrostatic and covalent interactions. They are widely used in applications involving nucleic acid hybridization, protein assays, and cell culture.

Material Composition

  • The plates are typically made from polystyrene or other plastic materials known for their durability and ability to adsorb biomolecules.
  • The surface is modified with amino groups to provide a positively charged environment for enhanced binding of negatively charged molecules.

Amination Process

  • Aminated plates are coated through a chemical process that introduces amino groups (e.g., -NH₂) onto the surface of the plates.
  • The aminated surface is uniformly distributed across the wells to ensure consistent binding properties.

Binding Properties

  • The positively charged amino groups interact electrostatically with negatively charged molecules, such as nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) and proteins, enhancing their adsorption to the plate.
  • Aminated surfaces also facilitate covalent bonding through amino group interactions, allowing for more stable immobilization of biomolecules.

Plate Formats

  • Available in standard formats such as 96-well and 384-well plates to suit various assay scales.
  • Typically flat-bottom designs are used, compatible with optical detection methods like colorimetric, fluorescent, and chemiluminescent assays.

Applications

  • Nucleic Acid Hybridization: Enhances the attachment of nucleic acids to the plate surface for hybridization assays, such as dot blots, in situ hybridization, and quantitative PCR.
  • Protein Assays: Facilitates the immobilization of proteins for studies involving protein-protein interactions, enzyme assays, or immunoassays.
  • Cell Culture: Supports cell adhesion and growth, especially for cells with negatively charged surface components, useful in various cell-based assays.
  • Diagnostics and Research: Provides a versatile platform for capturing a wide range of biological molecules in diagnostic tests and research applications.

Compatibility

  • Compatible with various detection systems, including colorimetric (e.g., HRP/TMB), fluorescent, and luminescent methods.
  • Suitable for use with standard laboratory equipment, such as automated pipetting systems and microplate readers, ensuring ease of integration into existing workflows.
